Use the exact instructions supplied by the installer or film manufacturer when they differ from this general reference. Film construction, installation side, weather, and site conditions can change cleaning and care requirements.
Cleaning solution
Use the manufacturer-approved cleaner. When permitted, mild dish soap diluted in clean water or a non-abrasive glass cleaner is commonly used.
Cleaning tools
Use a clean microfiber or soft lint-free cloth, a clean synthetic sponge, or a soft squeegee approved for the film.
Drying
Dry with a clean soft cloth or soft squeegee. Keep the blade free of grit and reduce pressure near edges and splices.
Exterior film
Use tools and water that have not collected exterior grit. Exterior products may have separate cleaning and inspection requirements.
Do not use these on the film
- Razor blades, knives, metal scrapers, stiff brushes, abrasive pads, scouring powders, or gritty cleaners.
- Dirty or damaged cloths, sponges, and squeegee blades that may hold hard particles.
- Strong chemicals or solvents unless the exact manufacturer instructions approve them.
- Steamers, pressure washers, or powered cleaning equipment unless approved for the product and installation.
Protect the film surface and edges
Do not pick, pull, trim, or repeatedly rub the film edge. Keep furniture, blinds, signs, jewelry, tools, and other hard objects from scraping the surface. Stop cleaning if an edge appears loose or a splice changes.
Tape, decals, hooks, and suction cups
Do not attach an adhesive or suction-mounted item to the film unless the film manufacturer or installer has approved that exact use. Removing it can mark the surface, pull an edge, or separate the film from the glass.
If damage is noticed
Do not puncture a bubble, cut a lifted edge, peel the film, or apply household adhesive. Photograph the condition in normal daylight, note the location and date, and contact the installer. Broken or cracked glass should be treated as a glass-safety issue, not a film-care problem.
Installation and care record
