Window film information

Window-film test standards and what they measure.

A reference to common solar, safety-glazing, forced-entry, and blast test sources without implying that every product meets every standard.

Reference, not approval

Use the current manufacturer documents, applicable standards, and exact glazing information for the project.

Window Film Information

A standard defines a test or specification. A product claim still needs the correct edition, laboratory report, tested construction, classification, and installed configuration.

Solar and optical measurements

  • ASTM E903 addresses solar absorptance, reflectance, and transmittance measurements under defined laboratory conditions.
  • NFRC ratings describe certified product and attachment performance under program rules.

Safety glazing

  • ANSI Z97.1 and 16 CFR Part 1201 address safety performance and testing for architectural glazing within their stated scopes.
  • Confirm whether an applied film product or filmed assembly has the required certification and labeling.

Forced entry

  • ASTM F1233 and other project standards define tools, impacts, sequences, and classifications for security glazing materials and systems.
  • Security language without a matching test and complete configuration is not enough.

Airblast

  • ASTM F1642/F1642M addresses glazing and glazing systems subjected to airblast loading.
  • Film, attachment, glass, frame, anchors, opening, and threat conditions are part of the evaluation.

Using a report

  • Check report number, laboratory, date, standard edition, specimen size, glass, film, attachment, frame, anchors, conditioning, and classification.
  • Do not extend a result to a materially different installation without qualified review.
